Ipswich Town strengthen ahead of Bolton Wanderers clash with Leeds United defender transfer

Ipswich Town have bolstered their defensive ranks ahead of taking on Bolton Wanderers this week with the permanent acquisition of defender Leif Davis from Leeds United.

Wanderers travel to Portman Road to take on the Tractor Boys for the curtain raiser of the League One new season this Saturday. Bolton will be aiming to begin the season in positive fashion.

But Kieran McKenna's side have added young defender Davis to their squad from the Premier League outfit. The 22-year-old has joined the Tractor Boys for an undisclosed fee.

He has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the League One side. The club holds an option to extend the contract by an extra 12 months.

Speaking to iFollow Ipswich, Davis said: "I am delighted to be here. This is the best step for me at this point in my career.

"I want to play games and help the team in any way I can. I'll always give it my all when I am out on the pitch and I can't wait to meet the fans at Portman Road."

Ipswich boss McKenna added: "We're really happy to have Leif with us. This is one the Club has worked hard on this summer.

"He is a player that fits the bill of what we want. He is young, hungry, athletic and technically very good.

"Leif has played games in pre-season and we are hoping he will be ready to make an impact early on. He'll get plenty of support from the staff and fanbase, and I know everyone will be excited to see him play."
