The IPL 2025 auction at the Abady Al-Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marked a historic moment as five players joined the list of the top-10 most expensive signings in IPL history.
Rishabh Pant, released by the Delhi Capitals, was snapped up by the Lucknow Super Giants for a record Rs 27 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. This remarkable deal followed closely behind Shreyas Iyer, the title-winning captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, who was secured by the Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore.
In total, franchises spent Rs 467.95 crore on 72 players, showing a willingness to invest heavily in strengthening their teams. Pant's historic bid highlighted the auction, while Iyer became the second most expensive purchase after Punjab Kings also added Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal to their lineup for Rs 18 crore each, boosting their bowling options.
Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders made a significant investment to keep allrounder Venkatesh Iyer, re-signing him for Rs 23.75 crore to retain their core players.
Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal were both acquired by Punjab Kings for Rs 18 crore each, strengthening their bowling lineup. Jos Buttler was signed by Gujarat Titans for Rs 15.75 crore, bringing in his explosive batting capabilities. KL Rahul joined Delhi Capitals for Rs 14 crore, adding experience to their ranks. Trent Boult, Josh Hazlewood, and Jofra Archer each went for Rs 12.50 crore — Boult to Mumbai Indians, Hazlewood to Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Archer to Rajasthan Royals — enhancing their respective bowling attacks significantly.
