Iowa has the second-highest cancer incidence rate in the country and is one of only three states where cancer rates are rising, according to the Iowa Cancer Registry, Iowa Capital Dispatch reported. The figures drew renewed attention Oct. 19, when Gov. Kim Reynolds' office announced that her husband, Kevin, 68, had surgery to remove a brain tumor after his lung cancer returned. He is expected to begin radiation therapy.
The registry's 2026 Cancer in Iowa report projects about 21,700 new invasive cancers and about 6,400 cancer deaths in the state this year.
