iOS 18 will give your iPhone a life-saving feature with Emergency SOS live video calls

Three iPhones side-by-side, showing a feature in iOS 18 that allows a user to share a live video during a call with emergency services.

There are times when, during an emergency call, it'd be helpful to be able to show dispatchers and first responders where you are, what kind of help you need, and your general situation. Apple seems to be aware of this, as the company is integrating 911 support platforms like RapidSOS Unite and Prepared into its Emergency SOS feature – with plans to do the same in countries outside the US, too.

When iOS 18 lands later this year, you’ll be able to share a live video stream with a 911 dispatcher. The idea is that this will provide contextual assistance to the first responder, giving them a much better idea of where you are and helping them reach you faster.
