Bomb squad carries out controlled explosion after incident at STV offices

A BOMB disposal squad has carried out a controlled explosion following an incident near STV studios in Glasgow.

Officers were called to the channel's offices at Pacific Quay in Glasgow around 6.40pm on Tuesday night following a report of a "suspect vehicle" in the car park.

Police Scotland has now confirmed that a unit from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team carried out a controlled explosion.

The STV Glasgow studio was evacuated and residents living nearby were told to vacate their homes while Scotland Tonight was unable to be transmitted.

Previously, an STV spokesperson said: “Due to a police incident in the area, STV’s offices at Pacific Quay have been evacuated this evening.

“The channel remains on air with regular programming, but this evening’s edition of Scotland Tonight won’t be transmitted.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called around 6.40pm on Tuesday October 17 2023 to a report of a suspect item in a car park in Govan Road, near the South Rotunda, in Glasgow.

"A cordon was put in place as a precaution, EOD attended and carried out a controlled explosion. The item was found to be not viable.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
