An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man's body in a freight park in Cheshire. Police were called to the Stobart freight terminal in the early hours of Monday.
Upon arriving at the Stobart rail freight terminal - on Desoto Road in Widnes - at roughly 4.30am on Monday, Cheshire cops discovered that a 61-year-old man had died.
Next of kin of the man - thought to be a lorry driver who was found by a fellow trucker - have been informed. Now, the Echo reports that a police investigation is underway, supported by the Health and Safety Executive.
Stobart said the incident was a "tragic accident", adding the company's thoughts are with the deceased's family. The rail depot is part of the Mersey Multi-Modal Gateway (3MG).
A Cheshire Police spokesman told the ECHO: “At roughly 4.30am on Monday, July 4, officers responded to an industrial incident that occurred on Desoto Road, Widnes. Officers attended and found that a 61-year-old man had sadly passed away.
“An investigation into the incident has been launched by Cheshire Police with support from the Health and Safety Executive. The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.”
A Stobart spokesman added: "It is with regret that we can confirm that an incident occurred on July 4, which unfortunately resulted in the fatality of an employee. A full investigation is under way, and we are cooperating fully with the authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the family at this extremely sad time.”
The ECHO has approached the HSE for comment.
