An investigation has been launched following a fire at a business in North Shields.
Emergency crews attended the scene from approximately 6pm following the blaze at the property at Northumberland Place on Thursday evening. Firefighters from the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service tackled the blaze for nearly 90 minutes.
Officers from Northumbria Police also confirmed officers attended the scene to assist fire crews after their assistance was requested. They closed roads in the vicinity while they assisted the fire brigade with the operation.

Crews were sent to the scene from Tynemouth and Wallsend Community Fire Stations and and managed to extinguish the fire using three hose reels and firefighters wearing specialist breathing apparatus.
A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, said: “We can confirm that three appliances were dispatched on Thursday evening to a fire located at a commercial property in North Shields, North Tyneside.
“Our fire control team received the initial emergency call at 6.02pm and crews were sent to the scene from Tynemouth and Wallsend Community Fire Stations.
“Our crews battled the blaze at Northumberland Place and managed to extinguish the fire using three hose reels and firefighters wearing specialist breathing apparatus.
“The fire caused extensive damage to the commercial property in question. Currently enquiries are ongoing in to circumstances of the fire.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police, at the time of the blaze, added: "We got request from fire to assist regards to a building fire on Upper Camden Street, North Shields.
"We have since closed Upper Camden Street. We were called at about 6.30pm."
Fire crews left the scene of the fire at 7.29pm after tackling the blaze for nearly one-and-a-half hours.
