- McConnell was hospitalised in mid-June following a fall and pneumonia, acknowledging his recovery has been long and that he is not yet back to 100 per cent.
- Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear had previously called on McConnell to provide proof of his recovery progress during his absence.
- McConnell, who stepped down as Senate GOP leader in January 2025, will exit the Senate at the end of the year after choosing not to stand for re-election.
