Inter forward Alexis Sanchez branded 'stupid' after sending off against Liverpool

Pundit Simon Jordan has branded Inter Milan forward Alexis Sanchez as 'stupid' after he was sent off in the Champions League clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night.

The Reds progressed to the quarter-finals of the competition with a 2-1 aggregate win, despite losing 1-0 to the Serie A giants in the second leg.

Inter Milan took the lead in the second half courtesy of a brilliant strike from Lautaro Martinez, but their hope was short-lived as Sanchez was sent off shortly after for a second yellow card.

Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan didn't hold back in his criticism of the Chilean and says he deserved the red card.

“He should’ve gone [been sent off] for just pure and simple stupidity because he’s put himself and his team in a very difficult position,” Jordan said on Wednesday’s White and Jordan show for talkSPORT.

“Sanchez knows he’s on a yellow card for a ridiculous first challenge, which he probably could have gone on a straight red for. He then puts himself in the way of it.

“He’s an experienced footballer. This isn’t some guy that hasn’t been round the world or knows what he’s doing.

Jim White then asked: “You don’t like him, do you…”

To which Jordan replied: “No, I think he’s a cheat. He cheated Manchester United and he cheated Arsenal.

“And in this game he proved what we all think – he’s stupid”.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp also shared his thoughts on the sending off post-match and admitted Sanchez was 'lucky' to be on the pitch in the first place.

He said: "I don't understand why we have to discuss the red card. If you can win the ball only, if you endanger an opponent when you do it, then you don't win the ball.

"If Fabinho goes in with the same intention, with the leg out, then both players get injured.

"I think he was lucky he hadn't got a red card in the first half, going in so high on Thiago onto his knee. Passion is good, absolutely good, but if it leads to these kind of things then it doesn't help."
