Inter have confirmed the cut-price fee they paid to secure Romelu Lukaku's return on-loan from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
Lukaku's first year back at Chelsea did not go as planned after he enjoyed a brilliant start, scoring three goals in as many matches, before falling out of favour under Thomas Tuchel and only netting five more Premier League strikes during the remainder of the campaign. The Belgian striker did not help his own cause after he apologised for comments made in an interview mid-season in which he criticised Tuchel and hinted at a return to Inter.
The Blues replaced Lukaku with the arrivals of Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but the Belgium international has shown he is still capable of performing having registered three goal contributions in four appearances so far this term. Lukaku has struggled with a hamstring injury so far this campaign but returned with a goal off the bench in the UEFA Champions League clash against Viktoria Plzen earlier this week.

Lukaku's return to San Siro highlights a masterstroke in transfer business by the Serie A outfit as they paid a fraction of the £97.5million transfer fee they received from Chelsea for his services. Official figures released by Inter Milan have confirmed that they struck an agreement worth €7.8million (£6.7m) with Chelsea to secure a loan move for the 29-year-old just a year after they sold him.
Despite Lukaku's extended spell on the sidelines through injuries, it has already been claimed that Inter are keen on keeping the striker in Milan beyond this season. Both Chelsea and Lukaku are also believed to be receptive to a longer agreement with Todd Boehly targeting other players to reinforce the attack, including Christopher Nkunku who has already signed a pre-contract with the Blues, football.london understands.
According to Tuttosport, via Sempre Inter, Lukaku held a meeting with Roc Nation President Michael Yormak over his future. The report claims that Yormak stressed he will do whatever he can to ensure his client remains at the San Siro next season.
