KOLKATA: An institute of the wheels stopped in Kolkata on Thursday to train young doctors on arthroscopy, a minimal invasive surgery, to treat problems of the joints. Organised by the West Bengal Orthopaedic Society and the Kolkata Arthroscopy & Spine Surgery Society, young doctors from across Bengal got hands on training on the basic knee arthroscopy.
The bus by Johnson and Johnson designed and equipped with all hands on training facilities has been travelling across the country. In Bengal, it stopped at the premises of KPC Medical College in Kolkata where post graduate medical students from both private and public hospitals were imparted the training by senior orthopaedic surgeons on conducting keyhole surgeries.
“Arthroscopy surgeries are relatively new technique procedures that can help in many types of injuries in the joints like the knee and hip with minimal invasion. The bus has a mini OT with other facilities for hand on training,” said Dr Ritwik Ganguly convenor of the workshop.
Joydip Mitra CEO of KPC Medical College said around 85 young doctors were trained during the workshop.
