Instant analysis of Chiefs selecting Kansas State’s Felix Anudike-Uzomah at pick No. 31

The Kansas City Chiefs used pick No. 31 to select Kansas State edge rusher Felix Anudike-Uzomah, which felt like a natural selection at that spot. The numbers at the defensive line were good leading into the pick and even with three consecutive picks at the defensive line, this felt like a good value for Kansas City. It’s the cherry on top that this prospect is a Kansas City native, who played high school football in the area.

Anudike-Uzomah posted exceptional production during the past two seasons at Kansas State, with over 95 total tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss and 19.5 sacks. That production earned him two consecutive Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year selections and a Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year selection in 2022.

Brett Veach was wise to invest in this position before it began to drop off on Day 2. Pairing another edge rusher on the opposite side of George Karlaftis keeps one of the premium positions cheap for years to come. This also could allow Charles Omenihu to line up with more frequency on the defensive interior, which is something that Veach suggested during his pre-draft press conference.
