Instagram is currently working on a new feature to help protect users from unwanted nudity.
Unsolicited X-rated pics often drop into users DM's and now the image-sharing app is working on a way to tackle this. Meta confirmed that it is working on optional user controls which obscure images which may include nudity.
The tool will use artificial intelligence (AI) to detect nudity in photos and automatically filter them out. The move will help users protect themselves from unwanted sexual harassment.

The development was first reported by The Verge and Instagram confirmed the feature. The company said the feature is in the early stages of development and it’s not testing this yet.
Meta spokesperson Liz Fernandez said: “We’re developing a set of optional user controls to help people protect themselves from unwanted DMs, like photos containing nudity. This technology doesn’t allow Meta to see anyone’s private messages, nor are they shared with us or anyone else. We’re working closely with experts to ensure these new features preserve people’s privacy while giving them control over the messages they receive."
In a screenshot, shared by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi on Twitter earlier this week, it showed that users will be able to choose whether or not to view the rude images. The app will also offer safety tips for dealing with sensitive photos.
Meta said it will share more details about the new feature in the next few weeks as they get closer to testing.
