University students have been warned to keep their doors and windows secure following an increase in burglaries. Nottinghamshire Police has seen a recent rise in burglaries, with student addresses being targeted and laptops and other electrical items being stolen.
Inspector Ben Lawrence, of the City Central neighbourhood policing team, is urging people to be vigilant and make sure their accommodation is secure. He said: “We had 15 burglaries in the Lenton, Arboretum and Radford areas last month, 11 of which were student properties.
"Of those, around 80% involved suspects gaining entry via insecure doors and windows. Laptops and electrical items are often taken, which often contain a lot of important study work and leaves the victims without their coursework and notes, which are obviously crucial for their studies.
“Burglary is a very distressing crime so important to make sure your house or flat is secure. I also extend this advice to all communities in Nottinghamshire as most burglaries are committed by offenders entering through home insecurities be it open windows or unlocked doors.”
