Insider Claims 'GTA VI' Price Leak Is Inaccurate, Warns Against Fake Claims About the Game

An insider is now sharing a warning to the general public about the leaks involving "Grand Theft Auto VI's" pricing. The insider is claiming that the rumored pricing is false and inaccurate.

'GTA VI' Insider Price Leaks Are Inaccurate

A leak that surfaced earlier this week appeared to reveal that pricing, but according to a trusted insider (via ComicBook Gaming), those numbers may not hold up.

The warning comes from billbil_kun, a retail leaker known for accurately predicting game pricing well before official announcements. According to the insider, the prices currently circulating online for "GTA VI" are not legitimate figures from Rockstar Games.

Instead, they are described as placeholder values that retailers set on their own, without any confirmation from the publisher itself. Rockstar has not announced an actual price for "GTA VI" as of press time, and the insider noted that the real number will not be revealed until preorders go live on Thursday.

Insider Warns Against 'GTA VI' Fake Claims

Even though the insider is casting doubt on the leaked numbers, there is still a chance the placeholder prices end up matching the real thing. The leak in question pointed to a $79.99 price tag for the standard edition of "GTA VI" in the United States.

That figure would not be out of the ordinary, since several other major releases have already launched at that price point over the past year.

Given how much anticipation has built up around "GTA VI," Rockstar would likely sell tens of millions of copies regardless of whether it landed at $80. That said, there is also an argument for Rockstar pricing the game lower in order to build out the player base for "GTA Online" as quickly as possible.

Since the multiplayer mode is expected to be the main long-term revenue driver through microtransactions, a more accessible price point like $70 could help Rockstar grow that audience faster right out of the gate.

That said, there were also speculations about "Grand Theft Auto VI" being the first game in the market to be priced at $100, setting a new standard in the market and being its most expensive one to date.

'GTA VI' Preorder to Unveil Official Price

Regardless of which scenario plays out, fans will not have to wait long to find out the truth as preorders for "GTA VI" are scheduled to open by Thursday, June 25, for both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, covering both digital and retail storefronts.

Rockstar Games is expected to confirm the official price for "GTA VI" at that point, putting an end to the speculation that has been building since the placeholder figures first surfaced. The game itself remains on track for a November 19 release date, which is still several months away even as pricing details start to take shape this week.
