With kids’ favourite cartoon characters gratified on the wall, sit-in cars and TV screens playing children’s shows, Nottingham’s newest hair salon designed for kids will be a hit with parents. Kool Kidz Cutz owner Anne Duggan is opening up a brand new salon in Kimberley.
The Nottinghamshire mum had a ‘light bulb moment’ with the concept and first opened Kool Kidz Cutz in Wollaton in 2019. Now, Anne is set to open another salon specialised for kids in Kimberley.
The new salon is located on Main Street, Kimberley, in the former Tangles Hair salon. It is set to open on April 4 with appearances from Spider-Man and Peppa Pig.

Anne said: “I started Kool Kidz Cutz in 2019 next door to Wollaton Barbers specialising in hair cuts for Boys and Girls in a themed salon with TV’s to watch and cartoon characters painted on the walls. The child sits in a train, aeroplane, police car or a Mercedes while they have their hair cut .We also have a special ‘Princes Room’ that has proved really popular.”
Having begun ladies hairdressing at the age of sixteen in sherwood, Anne has built herself up in the hair industry. She also owns Wollaton Barbers as well as running Nottingham Barbering Academy.
Anne continued:“It started with one pink car and a mum putting cartoons on her phone for her son to watch to keep him still whilst he had his hair cut - that was my lightbulb moment, she added.
“It just grew and grew and we now have 7 cutting stations with people travelling from Newark, Derby, Matlock and Mansfield to Wollaton to get their little boys and girls hair cut in a ‘wow’ environment.”
“I am constantly asked to open here, there and everywhere, but one day I went to Kimberley to buy some curtains and saw Tangles Hair Salon was now vacant. I had lived in Kimberley 20 years ago for a time and had always had my eye on that shop. Sarah from D for Dogs the Dog groomers next door brings her son in to Kool Kidz Cutz and gave me the landlord's details and now we open next Tuesday fourth of April.
“It is so busy in Kimberley with Sainsburys and the neighbourhood shopping centre opposite and there is lots of free parking which is so important straight opposite the shop at 59 Main Street NG16 2NG."
The new Kimberley site has taken on a lovely new team of staff members. Anne said: “We have (taken on more staff) yes, one full time and one junior, but we still need a full time hairdresser and we want to train up another junior - it is a brilliant job and the parents are so grateful as many kids are freaked out having their hair cut in a normal barbers .
“On a first hair cut the child gets a sticker and a certificate and a piece of hair in a special bag. Often we have parents and grandparents coming in for the child’s first haircut.”
“I run Nottingham Barbering Academy as well and train barbers , so anyone who joins us will go on the course that is £2,500 for free. It is a great and stable career - Katy has been with me for 10 years and Kelly my manager for 20 years .
“We have the lovely Linzy who will be full time at Kimberley, with Kelly , Katy and myself working with her throughout the week with Erin our junior."
