Inside the Love Island villa as bosses call for dad bods, throuples and tease huge changes

Love Island's popularity has grown year on year, with famous faces now getting in on the villa action.

A-list stars Amy Schumer and Lizzo have previously taken interest in the series and host Maya Jama reveals Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire is also a fan.

As 28-year-old Maya and producer Mike Spencer take the Mirror and other reporters on a tour of the swish new villa, Maya says 47-year-old Tobey couldn't resist raving about the series after they were sat next to one another at a showbiz event.

Maya spills: "[Tobey] loves the show. He’s a big fan."

She adds: "And, yeah, he loved the show and knew all the series and everything."

Meanwhile, producer Mike reveals Barbie star Margot Robbie is also a big fan: "We’ve been chatting to Margot [Robbie] as well we’ve brought some merchandise for her."

When asked if Margot, 32, could be making a cameo appearance on the show Mike teases: "Watch this space!"

He adds how the Wolf Of Wall Street actress would be "the dream Islander".

Celebrities and regular fans alike will be in for a string of new surprises and updates within the now show – after Maya joined as host during the winter series earlier this year.

After filming in South Africa wrapped on March 13, work started on the villa soon after so it would be ready to welcome new Islanders.

The swanky new villa is complete with a series of exciting new additions – as the Hideaway has been treated to a sexy pink and purple makeover while two outdoor day beds have been added to the garden.

A new 're-list' drawer has been added into the swanky dressing room so Islanders can give their clothes to be advertised and bought by fans on eBay, one of the show's many commercial collaborators.

Aside from the classic Love Island neon signs and stickers of catchphrases plastered across the villa, a new sign added to the bathroom has a more important message.

The show is inviting Islanders and viewers to "check your chest" in collaboration with the breast cancer charity Coppafeel.

The swanky villa's additions aren't the only new thing the viewers will get used to seeing as producer Mike calls for more "dad bods" on the shows.

He says: "I say bring on the dad bods that’s a good thing.

"I’d like more hairy chests, you know. But yeah I think there’s a great group of people."

The producers could also be open to new dynamics on the show – with rising talks about the throuple dynamic, which Mike admits are "very in right now" – but would prove to be a logistical nightmare.

When asked if the show would be open to a "throuple" on the series, the show's producer says: "I think we’d have to look at how that would affect the recouplings but, if you wanna be a throuple... I mean it’s very in right now isn’t it?

"I’m just trying to think of the logistics with three people, it doesn’t really work does it? So probably not, it’s not Throuple Island."

When you pack 10 sexy, single 20-somethings inside a secluded villa for six to eight weeks sex is inevitable.

And the programme plan to approach the topic with "a bit of humour" as long as it's "safe and consensual".

Mike explains: "You can’t be a Love Island contestant and not know any part of the deal now – every single part of Love Island both seen as good and bad has been out there.

"I think for a new Islander they know the show has evolved and we are suggestive when it comes to sex we’re not like: ‘Show everything’ if someone has sex we’ll add a bit of music, we’ll add a bit of humour that’s tonally how we address it. I think as an Islander coming in you know exactly what to expect and you’re fully briefed."

One thing the show's producer has ruled out is the return of the trip to Magaluf. In a moment, which has been dubbed one of the craziest in Love Island history, Calum Best took the series one lads to Magaluf for a night out which ended up in some strangers heading into the villa.

Looking back, Mike says the ordeal was " one of the worst nights of my life" and gave a firm "no" to the idea of the Magaluf night out making a return.

The new series starts Monday June 5 (ITV)

And when it comes to other challenges and moments in the new series – including the iconic Casa Amor – they are all up for new twists and turns while others could be scrapped completely...

" We never say if Casa Amor is back but I think things will be a little different this year. Hopefully we’ll keep people on their toes and you won’t expect it," Mike teases.

Mike adds there will be some new challenges this year.

" We are still really reactive so we still look at what people are saying when we’re on air and it plays a massive factor in what we do everyday. We talk every single day about what we’r gonna do that morning, quite extensively, and everything has to be based around their relationships," he says.

And when asked if he'd scrap any of the staple challenges on the show, Mike teases: "Maybe."

Fans will have to tune in to find out how this series unfolds...

Love Island launches Monday June 5 at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
