Inside SakkuSamba, the huge new sushi and steak restaurant opening in Manchester

A huge new all-you-can-eat sushi and steak restaurant has opened in the former Artisan and Manchester House sites in Spinningfields. SakkuSamba represents a fusion of Brazilian and Japanese cuisine and has been created by restaurateur Zack Isaak.

Situated in Avenue North, the concept is split across two floors and includes a variety of Instagrammable spaces. Downstairs you'll find a ground-floor Caipirinha bar, while upstairs a 400-cover restaurant and bar, plus two luxurious private dining rooms.

Outfitted with pink sakura trees in a nod to Japan's cherry blossom, as well as neon light fixtures, bold patterns and plenty of spaces to grab a picture - including a room fit out with lightbulbs. VIPs are treated to they're very own restaurant area, as well as a private VIP corridor.

The new Brazilian-meets-Japanese dining experience is Isaak's first Manchester restaurant project, following a number of successful launches in West Yorkshire including Fleur Restaurant and Bar in Leeds - dubbed 'Leeds' most Instagrammable restaurant' and Casa Peri Peri in Wakefield. SakkuSamba brings together two more - Estabulo and Sakku sushi.

The new Manchester spot will boast an a bottomless sushi and steak menu, with guests able to pick from over 150 fresh steak and sushi dishes with a simple click of a button thanks to the digital tablets on the tables. Celebrating the fusion of two distinctly different global cuisines, visitors expect everything from sushi platters to Brazilian meats.

Honouring the Brazilian Gaucho's traditional method of cooking, whilst also celebrating Brazilian cuts, diners can try Picanha and Alcatro, alongside lamb rump, chicken thigh and sides like spicy rice, roast potatoes and garlic mushrooms. Sashimi and Nigiri, meanwhile, sit alongside fried dishes such as tabasaki chicken, tofu katsu, crispy squid and king prawn tempura.

Cocktails also feature heavily at SakkuSamba with tipples like drawing heavily from South America and Japan. There are more than 100 different drinks to try either downstairs at the Caipirinha bar or upstairs in the main restaurant.

Commenting on the news opening, Zack Isaak said, “SakkuSamba is all about creating an incredible dining experience. From the moment guests walk through the doors, to the minute they leave they’ll be blown away by our stunning décor, unique cocktails, beautiful menu and high end service.

"We wanted to come to Manchester with a bang, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do at our launch evening. SakkuSamba is set to become the go-to place to dine here in Manchester.”

The new restaurant isn't the only project combining the best of Brazilian and South American styles of cooking. Earlier this year it was announced that Chotto Matte is set to open its first UK restaurant outside of London in 2024.

The Peruvian-Japanese concept restaurant, founded by Hakkasan and Nobu alumnus Kurt Zdesar, will take residence on the top floor of Gary Neville’s St Michael’s development off Deansgate. The restaurant will offer ‘open sushi counters, robata grills, table side torched sushi, lava stone and graffiti inspired artwork, accompanied by live DJs and entertainment’.

Spinningfields has also changed significantly since the departure of Artisan and Manchester House since 2018. This year the business and hospitality district will also welcome Thai restaurant Giggling Squid, which will take over the former Carluccio’s site.

SakkuSamba will open its doors on Wednesday July 27 following a VIP launch party on Tuesday. Bookings can be made now for August 1 onwards, here.
