Newry woman Nicole told Be: "Joseph is originally from Wexford, but has lived in Newry for about 12 years now. Me and Joe always knew each other!
"We got together about eight years ago and the rest is history! We got engaged in Paris in 2020 just as Covid was at its peak. But it was phenomenal!"
Tell us all about your wedding day.
Our wedding day, well it was a rollercoaster of emotions! As soon as I woke up, the rain was pelting at the windows of my mum's house! But I never even thought about it, the house was buzzing and everything was happening. I loved every second.
How did you begin planning your wedding and how did you decide on your venue?
Planning the wedding was so exciting! As soon as we came home from Paris, Joe and I didn’t want to wait so the first thing we done was look at venues! We started with The Four Seasons in Carlingford. Well, our eyes lit up from stepping through the doors. We did spend our time looking at different options and we kept referring back to the Four Seasons and knew we had to book it.
Linda was our wedding coordinator and I mean she went above and beyond for us, and I can’t thank her enough. Choosing our ceremony venue was easy! Me and Joe have always wanted to get married in the Cathedral in Newry so we were delighted when they had our date available.
Tell us about your wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses and suits!
My wedding dress experience was probably the worst! I got my dream dress and everything I could of dreamt of, so that's the main thing. My bridesmaids dresses were bespoke made by the outstanding Emma Murnion Designs. Everything was perfect! There was nothing that Emma couldn’t do for me and the girls. The suits were from the amazing McCartan Bros in Newry - unbelievable service from the lovely Paul. Joe knew what he wanted and Paul couldn’t have been more helpful! Joe had the best experience with his suits and we both loved them.
What was the best part in the build up to your day?
The best part in the build up to our day was to see all of our families get excited for us both. It made us feel so at ease and they couldn’t do more for us! The excitement nearly took away the nerves for us both.
What was the best moment of your day and your other favourite parts?
The best moment for both of us was seeing each other at the end of the aisle, the feeling is indescribable! Also to top that feeling off, we had the amazing John Garrity singing at our ceremony so we got all the feels from his amazing voice.
What are your top tips for other couples?
Don’t sweat the small stuff! I know you hear it a lot from people, but it couldn’t be any more true. There’s only one thing that is important on your day and that’s that wee feeling when your see your new bride/groom. Enjoy it all! It’s a blink of an eye!
What were the hardest parts to plan?
I don’t think there was anything really that we found difficult to plan. Maybe waiting for the RSVPs! That was possibly the only thing that we can think of that made us anxious.
What was your theme?
Being a September wedding the theme was always to give autumn feels - like a boho style. We love everything rustic!
Would you do anything different?
If we were to do anything differently it would maybe be to take our time with things and not to rush into making decisions. And one thing I wish I didn’t worry about was my dress! I constantly was worried about getting it dirty, but it’s the day that’s in it. Nothing can be controlled! Just enjoy it all, because it really is the best day of your lives!
