Tournaments in training with Leeds United’s squad carved into three teams have formed the cornerstone of Jesse Marsch’s pre-season push for competition and camaraderie. The mini competitions were spotted during training in Australia and are expected to carry on at Thorp Arch this week.
The Whites flew back from their pre-season tour over the weekend and now have 12 days to apply their finishing touches before Wolverhampton Wanderers kick off the new season at Elland Road. Cagliari visit West Yorkshire this weekend for the final friendly of the summer and the last chance for Marsch to see his side against another club before August 6.
As the curtain came down on the tour in Perth with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Friday, Marsch spoke about the regime he has used behind the scenes in his first pre-season with the Whites. In an effort to build togetherness and keep players’ competitive juices flowing, Marsch has been cutting his squad into three teams and playing them off one another in drills.
