Actress Kate Bosworth is no stranger to Hollywood's red carpets – following her roles in Blue Crush, Las Vegas 21, and The Immaculate Room. However, a look inside her kitchen shows her talents expanding beyond the silver screen.
Firstly, Kate is a cooking enthusiast – as seen on her Instagram, where she shares experimental recipes (such as the breakfast pasta below) with her followers. Secondly (and, we'd say, most importantly), the actress has a flare for interiors – demonstrated through her stylish kitchen that serves as her backdrop.
The kitchen in question marries three contrasting colors: white (in the backsplash), brown (via the wooden cabinetry), and silver (seen in the metal finishes). These varying kitchen colors work seamlessly in Kate's space –and serve as a lesson in blending contrasting trends.
With its retro-style wooden cabinets, industrial metal, and sleek marble finishes – the space taps into three kitchen trends that are not typically paired alongside one another. However, in this case, it works seamlessly – serving as a reminder for us all not to shy away from merging styles – contrastable colors and eclectic materials. But what should we use as a starting point? Experts point to wood.
'Wood is a vital component of any kitchen, often making up most of our kitchen cabinetry. However, this means that it is viewed as simply a functional component, and with color playing such a prominent role in interior design, the wood is often painted over,' says Richard Davonport from Davonport Kitchens. 'However, as we look to embrace more of nature in our homes, the beauty of wood in the kitchen is finally being allowed to shine through.'
Richard urges us to follow Kate Bosworth's lead and keep wooden cabinetry neutral – creating an organic, beautiful base that is so sought after at present.
'There has been a shift to more organic materials, textures, and color palettes, and this includes letting the beauty of the wood speak for itself,' Richard adds.
When looking to replicate Kate's wooden cabinets, the expert says it's best to keep our fronts unpainted but play with color (whether vibrant or neutral) in other ways – including our backsplash or countertops. 'Combining exposed wood with color – whether bright or neutral color palettes is a fantastic way to create a kitchen with plenty of impacts,' he says.
We especially love how Kate has paired the wooden tones with white and metallic hues – the latter reminding us that (even the most) practical kitchens never need to sacrifice style.
