Agreement on all sides Jamie Shackleton needed to play more at 22-years-old paved the way for his Leeds United loan exit. Millwall tied up a season-long deal for the Thorp Arch graduate this week and Jesse Marsch was asked about it in Australia.
The head coach lifted the lid on the conversation he had with Shackleton before flying out for the pre-season tour. The American waxed lyrical about the youngster’s story with the Whites as a local lad too.
“We had a good conversation,” said Marsch. “Jamie's been an incredible story for the club because he's come through the academy.

“He's a Leeds boy. He's had some really good moments with the club. Even when he came in the match when we played against Brighton, in our second to last match, he performed well.
“Everyone felt strongly, including Jamie and his team, he needed to get match minutes [with] where he is in his career. That was really important.”
Leeds were open to a permanent exit for Shackleton, but a temporary agreement was reached. Marsch has intimated Shackleton’s progress in London will remain of interest to Leeds.
“The loan to Millwall is a good opportunity for him,” he said. “I know they're excited to have him and we'll keep track of him carefully and see his progress.”
