A man who bagged himself a bargain home fell seriously ill after trying to renovate the property himself.
Gordon appeared on BBC's Homes Under the Hammer after purchasing the dilapidated Kidsgrove house for just £44,500.
The show's host Martin Roberts described the ivy-covered property, which had a guide price of just £35,000, as 'dark, dingy and covered in nicotine stains'.
Built in the 1950s on a 'miners estate', the three-bed semi had fallen into state of disrepair and was classed as uninhabitable, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports.
It featured a filthy kitchen and toilet separate from an upstairs old-fashioned bathroom, with an overgrown garden and outdated interior.
The house, with fake-painted beams, was Gordon's first major renovation project.
He told Martin Roberts that he had a budget of £7,000 to bring the house back to life - which he was hoping to do in just six months.
However, after failing to wear protective clothing when stripping the house of ivy, Gordon became unwell which put the project on hold.
Camera crews from Homes Under the Hammer last visited the property close to the centre of Kidsgrove in 2019 when Gordon told Martin he had spent just £250 on a new kitchen and bathroom.
The house had been stripped ready for renovation - with Gordon planning on bringing in tradesmen to help.
Estate agents who visited the home reckoned the house would sell for £65,000 once brought back to its full glory.
However, Gordon was keen to offer the home for long-term rental with a potential to bring in a maximum of £600-a-month.
- Homes Under the Hammer is on BBC1 Monday to Friday at 11.15am.
