Inside Frogmore Cottage as Charles 'evicts' Meghan and Harry to move new royal in

When Prince Harry and Meghan wanted to escape Kensington Palace amid mounting tensions with the Waleses, it was Frogmore Cottage in Windsor that the Queen bestowed on them as a wedding gift.

Previously five separate properties for staff working on the Windsor Estate, the Grade II-listed building was lovingly converted into one supersize home at a cost of £2.4million to the Sovereign Grant, to huge criticism. They've since paid the money back and kept it as their UK base after quitting their senior roles and moving to the US.

They lent it to Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank after they welcomed their son August. However, it has been reported that the pair have been given the boot as King Charles looks to cut royal expenditure on housing.

Prince Andrew - who is facing possible eviction from his £30million Royal Lodge - has reportedly been offered the property instead.

And as experts predict it could spell the end for Meghan and Harry's time in the UK, The Mirror takes a look inside the stunning home and its lavish renovations...

Interior style

The laid-back style appears to be similar look to Harry and Meghan's £11million mansion in Montecito, California.

A photo from Lilibet's first birthday party last year showed a framed piece of art - potentially by Matisse - mounted on a wall decorated with stylish textured paint.

The black and white shot shows Lilibet and Meghan, alongside Harriman's wife, Camilla Holmstroem, and their two daughters.

Previously Princess Eugenie - who has also stayed at the home - uploaded a clip of the open-plan kitchen which looked to be traditional with a modern twist.

This was confirmed when Meghan and Harry shared a sweet image of them kissing on the marble-topped breakfast bar at Frogmore after a function.

The kitchen was built back in 1801 and was given a modern update with a herringbone parquet floor and industrial features.

The living room is also neutral, with a tonal palette, white sofa and off-white walls. A sweet photo of Eugenie's husband Jack cradling his son revealed a room with beige walls and white doors.

Eugenie has also been pictured sitting on a cream sofa with red and green cushions in front of a blue painted bookshelf.

Meghan hired Vicky Charles, a top design director, to decorate Archie's nursery.

Renovation

The dormitory-style building was transformed during the renovation, with two orangeries added; windows, chimneys, staircases replaced along with some high-tech upgrades.

At the time, a royal source told Daily Mail: "Natural light is important for the Sussexes as Meghan misses the LA sunshine."

Meghan and Harry are also believed to have used vegan, chemical-free paint from Auro which costs £74 for a five-litre tin.

Extra costs included installing a 'floating floor' in the kitchen where timbers were laid over the old floor which builders weren't allowed to remove.

The kitchen is said to be state-of-the-art and with top notch appliances with a possible price tag of £100,000.
