Inside Edinburgh's latest hidden bar as people rave about beautiful basement drinking den

Edinburgh is home to some of the most beautiful bars in the world, without doubt.

And a recently opened hidden drinking den is yet another city venue that oozes both class and style - and people are raving about it.

Photos being shared on social media show the incredible transformation of a basement space beneath much-loved New Town French restaurant, L'Escargot Bleu.

Snaps circulated by splntrdesign showcase the sleek new space, which boasts a beautiful curved bar.

They commented on how the basement had been an empty shell just weeks before and said: "Edinburgh’s own French wine bar in the heart of the city centre with possibly one of our favourite bars we’ve built to date. The curve.

"Once an empty basement space, we took on a full strip and restoration to create an intimate, cosy French bar experience beneath their much loved @lescargot_edin restaurant.

"Expect great wine, small plates and a cosy atmosphere."

And it seems that since opening, the new wine bar has very much lived up to their billing, with those lucky enough to have visited the space having lavished it with praise.

One person described it as their 'favourite place' in Edinburgh, while another championed its 'warm and cosy interior'.

A further review was unequivocal, with one visitor commenting: "If you are in Edinburgh, it would be wrong not to go there."

The bar also benefits from a roaring woodburning stove, providing the perfect place to coorie doon and warm up with a glass of wine on those cold winter nights.

What's more, the renovation led to the creation of one-of-a-kind private drinking nooks, tucked underneath Broughton Street, a perfect spot to hunker down over drinks with mates or perhaps on a date.

Yet of course another highlight of this striking new venue is that you're just a short saunter upstairs away from some of the city's best French food, where the likes of grilled snails, chorizo and garlic butter, steamed mussels marniere and duck leg confit with orange and cointreau await.

It's hard not to be impressed by this striking new place, which until very recently lay empty before being built up to its full potential. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.
