Inside Boris Johnson's lavish wedding bash where he joked about 'stitch up' to oust him from No10

Boris Johnson joked to his wedding guests that his removal from No10 was the "greatest stitch-up since the Bayeux Tapestry".

The Prime Minister donned a beige linen suit with a light blue shirt and navy tie as he and wife Carrie celebrated their marriage at Daylesford House, owned by Lord Bamford, chairman of JCB.

The Grade I-listed property lies near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire.

The PM told guests he had received "masses of letters to resign, mostly from my closest family", one of the guests who attended told The Times.

Wife Carrie also delivered a speech that was described as "touchingly funny" and "full of affection" for the PM.

It is understood that Mrs Johnson, 34, wore a gown worth £3,500 designed by Savannah Miller, that she had rented for £25 from the website My Wardrobe HQ.

The pair were later joined on the dance floor by their two-year-old son Wilf.

Mr Johnson's closest supporters were also in attendance, including Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Nadine Dorries and Nigel Adams, one of Johnson's closest friends and Minister Without Portfolio.

He and Ms Dorries are both rumoured to be in line for House of Lords seats in a last round of honours.

The party was held to celebrate the Johnsons’ marriage in May last year, which was a private ceremony at Westminster Cathedral. It was attended by only 30 guests because of Covid rules.

Ex-Neighbours pop star Holly Valance - who is married to billionaire property tycoon Nick Candy - was spotted arriving in a Rolls-Royce SUV.

The three-times-wed PM scrapped plans to party at grace-and-favour manor Chequers after they were highlighted by the Mirror after his resignation.

A sprawling marquee and hay bale seating were spotted on the estate to mark their wedding, 14 months after the pair made do with a scaled-back reception in the No10 garden.

Loyalist John Whittingdale, peer Zac Goldsmith and special advisors all trooped up to the country home too - alongside the PM’s dad Stanley, sister Rachel, and even some guests who arrived by helicopter.

But ex-chancellor Rishi Sunak and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss missed the party as they were on the campaign trail in a bid to replace the Prime Minister.

JCB tycoon Lord Bamford, his firms and his family have handed the Conservative Party at least £14million in cash and gifts since 2001.

Sources told the Mirror they expected Lord Bamford to cover at least some of the cost of the event. But No10 declined to comment saying it was a "private matter".
