Inside Alfredo Morelos 'difficult' Rangers journey as former teammate offers frank transfer verdict

Jamie Murphy has lifted the lid on Alfredo Morelos ' early struggles at Rangers - and where he sees the striker going next.

The Ibrox talisman struggled for form at the start of 2018 as his debut campaign was derailed ahead Pedro Caixinha's departure.

Rangers ended the season in a lacklustre third spot following the tenure of Graeme Murty as caretaker boss, while Morelos netted just once in the final 10 games of the season.

However, the Colombian rediscovered his scoring touch under Steven Gerrard took charge and hasn't looked back since.

Former teammate Murphy admits the language barrier hampered the forward in his first Premiership campaign.

Murphy told PLZ: “You know, it was really difficult with Alfredo.

“When I first came in he didn’t speak any English at all. People had to speak to him through the foreign boys we had at the time and whatever.

“It took a little bit of time to get used to it, and when Steven Gerrard came in he started pre-season on first and just went from there.

“He scored 30 odd goals that season and since then he has kept it going.”

Murphy reckons that Morelos is ready for the English Premier League if a club comes calling in the summer.

When asked about a transfer move and if he can play at the top level in England, the winger stated: “I think so.

"But sometimes that is the appeal of Rangers. People don’t realise how good they have it at a club like that and they don’t want to leave.

“People don’t stay at clubs forever so I’m sure eventually he will try something different and be a success.”
