An inmate who disappeared nearly 13 years ago from a prison camp in California has been apprehended in New York City, according to corrections officials.

Eduardo Hernandez, who went missing from the Delta Conservation Camp in Suisun City in November 2011, was taken into custody in New York on May 20 without incident, as confirmed by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).

Hernandez, who was serving a thirteen-year sentence for carjacking with a firearm enhancement, will be extradited back to California and may face additional escape charges, the CDCR stated.

Hernandez was serving a 13-year sentence for carjacking.

99% of escapees from correctional facilities are historically captured.

The CDCR highlighted that historically, 99 percent of individuals who have absconded from correctional facilities or programs without authorization have been captured.

During Hernandez's escape in 2011, he fled alongside another inmate, Jose Padilla, who is still at large, according to sources.

Both men were last seen in the early hours of November 15, 2011, escaping while wearing orange jeans and shirts labeled 'C.D.C.R. prisoner.'

The primary role of the Delta Conservation Camp in California's Bay Area is to provide incarcerated fire crews for fire suppression in specific regions, as outlined on the CDCR's website.

Following Hernandez's arrest, another inmate, James Xiong, who had been serving a sentence for possessing/owning a firearm as a felon or addict, escaped from the Delta Conservation Camp on May 13.

Law enforcement officers located Xiong in Monterey approximately two weeks later, where they had to use physical force and a taser to apprehend him, according to the CDCR.
