Law enforcement in downtown Houston is on high alert as they search for an escaped inmate who is considered dangerous. The inmate, identified as Joshua Nigel Thomas Sanders, 35, managed to flee custody while being transported back to jail from a court appearance. Sanders was facing charges of burglary and possession of a weapon as a felon.
According to Assistant Chief of Detentions Command Phillip Bosquez, Sanders made his escape by accosting a woman during his flight. He then commandeered a court employee's vehicle, resulting in a car accident on Commerce Street outside the Harris County Criminal Justice Center. Following the crash, Sanders fled on foot, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
Despite the chaotic escape, the woman involved in the incident was fortunately unharmed. Authorities suspect that Sanders may be armed with a knife, although the exact circumstances of how he obtained the weapon are unclear.
Law enforcement has issued a public advisory urging anyone who spots the escaped inmate to contact 911 immediately. Sanders is described as approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing around 140 pounds.
In an effort to locate Sanders, a marine unit has been deployed to search a local bayou for any signs of the fugitive. The manhunt is ongoing as authorities work tirelessly to ensure the safety of the community and bring the escaped inmate back into custody.
