An inmate at Tasmania's Risdon Prison has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly assaulting another prisoner.
Police were called about 6.15pm on Saturday after a male prisoner was allegedly injured at the facility, northeast of Hobart.
He was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Tuesday a 28-year-old male prisoner was charged with attempted murder and is expected to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court.
The Risdon Prison complex houses minimum- to maximum-security inmates and has a mental health unit.
