'Injustice 3' Leak: Unnamed Playtest Invitation in California Speculated to be for the Sequel

A fresh round of speculation is swirling around NetherRealm's long-dormant fighting game franchise. A quiet job posting for testers has fans convinced the sequel fans have wanted for years might finally be closer than ever.

'Injustice 3' Leak Claims Game Is Now in Playtesting

EventHubs reported that a listing posted through Good Gamer Group, a site that organizes paid playtesting sessions, is seeking participants for an unreleased AAA fighting game. The listing specifically described the project as a two-dimensional fighting title that has not yet been made public, details that immediately caught the attention of fans who have been tracking rumors about "Injustice 3" for years.

Since very few studios currently produce AAA-caliber 2D fighting games, the pool of possible candidates behind the listing narrows considerably.

The posting went live over a recent weekend, calling specifically for people willing to test a game described only in broad strokes rather than by name, a common practice for studios trying to keep unannounced projects under wraps during early testing phases. EventHubs walked through its reasoning methodically, noting that the combination of genre, budget tier, and secrecy already eliminates most ongoing fighting game projects currently known to be in development across the industry.

The site pointed out that mobile titles, card-based spinoffs, and smaller indie fighters would not match the AAA classification used in the listing, which further narrowed its investigation toward a small handful of major studios capable of producing a game at that scale.

Unknown Playtest Invitation in California

The playtest itself is being held in Culver City, California, a detail EventHubs pointed to as evidence the game likely comes from a Western developer rather than a Japanese studio. While NetherRealm's own offices are based in Chicago, Warner Bros. Games maintains a location near Culver City, and the site noted that the setup lines up with how Warner Bros. has handled testing for other NetherRealm projects in the past (via GameRant).

Since the listing rules out a DC card game or mobile title given its AAA and fighting game description, EventHubs concluded that "Injustice 3" remains the most likely candidate tied to this particular test.

It's Been So Long Since the Last 'Injustice' Title

"Injustice 2" was released back in 2017, meaning the franchise has gone without a new mainline entry for years while NetherRealm focused its attention on the "Mortal Kombat" series instead. That gap has fueled a steady stream of speculation, including a claimed roster leak in 2021 and comments from voice actors that were later walked back as misunderstandings.

NetherRealm has historically alternated between its two biggest properties. And with "Mortal Kombat 1" having wrapped its post-launch content and reportedly underperforming compared to expectations, fans see this as the natural point for the studio to shift focus back toward its DC-based fighting game once again.

Creative director Ed Boon has also previously hinted he would be surprised if the studio never returned to the franchise, though he has stopped short of confirming anything directly tied to a new project.

Given how many separate leaks have pointed toward the same conclusion over the past year, this latest playtest sighting adds another data point suggesting "Injustice 3" could be much closer to an official reveal than fans previously assumed.
