Injury issues at least solve selection headache, says Jonas Eidevall as Arsenal face Manchester City

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall says the club’s injury woes may work to their advantage, ahead of tonight’s Women’s League Cup semi-final.

Arsenal host Manchester City at Boreham Wood, before the teams do it all again in Manchester in Saturday’s WSL meeting.

Eidevall has a number of key players out with long-term injuries, including Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema, but the Swede suggested the long list of absentees may work in Arsenal’s favour when it comes to selecting who to rest with Saturday’s WSL encounter in mind.

He said: “When you have less numbers, it means that you will do less rotation, because you have less players to choose from.

“From that sense it might be easier for me than it is for Gareth [Taylor, City manager], because he has more players to choose from.

“It obviously means that I have more players who will need to play more minutes in these matches, but we’re at a stage where the players can handle it.”

City started the season poorly, but they have since turned the tide and will arrive at Boreham Wood unbeaten in 16 games.

“They are a top team who are performing very well,” added Eidevall. “We are also a top team, so it will be a very interesting match-up.

“Our preference is to control the game with the ball, but the reality is when you’re playing against a team like City, both teams will have spells with the ball and both teams will have spells without the ball. You need to be good in possession, out of possession.”
