Injured players have chance of return at Edinburgh, says Stirling Albion boss

Stirling Albion manager Darren Young says last weekend’s postponement has given those players carrying knocks every chance of making Friday night’s trip to the capital.

The Binos were due to welcome bottom side Cowdenbeath to Forthbank on Saturday only for the League Two encounter to be called off three hours before kick-off due to the adverse weather.

Stirling now head east to play Edinburgh City in a huge game for both sides in their quest for the play-offs.

Albion are seventh in the standings, seven points behind a City side who have recorded recent away wins at Forfar and Stranraer to boost their own hopes of a top-four finish.

However, Young believes with his squad having had additional time to rest and recover in wake of last weekend’s postponement, he is confident of having one or two back he might otherwise not have expected to make the fixture at Ainslie Park.

Young said: “There were a few boys carrying knocks last weekend so hopefully they will be fine for Friday after a few extra days of rest.

“It feels like we have had to chop and change personnel and formations all the time since I came into the job because of injuries and that hasn’t helped us.

“It was disappointing Saturday’s game was postponed – we were looking forward to it after a very good performance at Annan but it’s just one of these things.

“We didn’t bring the guys in for training given how the weather was. We trust them to do their own thing in the gym and report back with what they’ve done rather than drag them in when it was so wet and windy.

“We had actually looked at trying to play the game this midweek even though we have another game on Friday but I don’t think the short notice suited Cowdenbeath.”

The artificial surface at Ainslie Park should ensure there are no issues for Friday’s game and the current forecast for Edinburgh at the end of the week looks good in any case.

Young added: “There are a lot of points still to play for but, given our position in the table, Friday is not a game we want to be losing – hopefully we can go there and get the three points and go on a bit of a run.”
