Injured man rushed to hospital after being found unconscious in house fire

A man was dragged to safety from a burning house in Abbey Hey, Gorton, on Monday evening (April 11). The blaze broke out at a terraced home on Kenyon Street at around 7pm.

The male, whose age is not yet known, was unconscious but breathing when fire crews ran inside and managed to drag him to safety through the smoke. His condition was described as 'poor' but he was immediately rushed to hospital for treatment.

Numerous fire engines attended the scene shortly after 7pm, with a cordon erected in the back alley behind the home. Officers from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service paramedics remained at the scene into the evening.

Fire crews spent two hours tackling the domestic fire, which saw 'thick smoke' billowing from inside the property. Crews left the scene once the flames were put out but will return on Tuesday morning with investigators, to carry out further enquires to establish the cause of the fire.

A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Just after 7pm this evening firefighters from Gorton and Ashton attended a domestic fire in a house on Kenyon Street, Manchester. Firefighters battled fire thick smoke back and were able to drag one injured man out of the blaze.

"His condition was poor: breathing but unconscious. After he was rescued from the fire, Ambulance colleagues took him to hospital and firefighters spent a further two hours extinguishing the fire.

"Firefighters have now left the area, but tomorrow morning a thorough multi-agency investigation will commence to establish the cause of the fire." Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further information.
