In Maine, a ballot initiative that aims to limit the amount of campaign contributions to super PACs was certified to the Maine State Legislature.
The Maine secretary of state’s office said in a press release on Feb. 22 that 76,081 signatures were found to be valid. The campaign supporting the initiative, Maine Citizens to End Super PACs, submitted 84,025 signatures on Jan. 23. The minimum requirement was 67,682 valid signatures.
The initiative will now go to the Maine State Legislature. If the legislature approves the initiative, it becomes law. If the legislature does not act on the initiative or rejects it, the initiative goes on the ballot.
