BENGALURU: India's balance of payments recorded a deficit of $8.1 billion in the April-June quarter, compared with a surplus of $4.5 billion a year earlier, despite swinging to a surplus in June, central bank data showed on Friday.
India's overall balance of payments recorded a surplus of $2.9 billion in June, compared with a deficit of $0.4 billion a year earlier, after deficits in the first two months of the financial year.

India had reported a balance of payments deficit of $6.6 billion in April and $4.4 billion in May
In June, thecurrent account balance stood at a deficit of $6.2 billion compared with a surplus of $1.2 billion last year. The current account balance slipped to a deficit of $3.1 billion in the quarter to June compared with a deficit of $2.9 billion in the same period last year.
Net transfers, which include remittances from Indian workers overseas, rose to $11.9 billion in June from $10.9 billion a year ago.
The capital account, which includes foreign portfolio investments, saw an inflow of $9.1 billion in June 2026 compared with an outflow of $1.6 billion in the same month last year.
Worries over India's balance of payments deficit have been a crucial pain point for the rupee in 2026, as the Iran war lifted crude oil prices sharply and caused unabated capital outflows. Policy measures to boost dollar inflows have prompted analysts to forecast a near neutral or modest surplus in BoP for the fiscal year ending March 2027.
