India’s app economy goes spiritual: Religious and astrology apps clock nearly 30 crore downloads in nine months

India’s religious, spiritual and astrology apps recorded nearly 30 crore downloads between January and September 2026, surpassing their combined downloads for the whole of 2025. Astrology apps accounted for 15 crore downloads, while religious and spiritual apps recorded 14.6 crore, reflecting growing use of smartphones for prayer, devotional content and astrology services, a TOI report stated.

According to data from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, shared exclusively with TOI, astrology app downloads rose 75% year-on-year during the first nine months of 2026. Downloads of religious and spiritual apps increased 47% over the same period. The combined total exceeded the 24.8 crore downloads recorded by the two categories throughout 2025.
