NEW DELHI: Indian race walkers performed poorly in the 20km event of the Paris Olympics on Thursday. Vikash Singh and Paramjeet Singh placed a pitiful 30th and 37th, respectively, while national record holder Akshdeep Singh withdrew after 6km.
Vikash finished in 1 hour 22 minutes and 36 seconds, while Paramjeet took 1:23:48 to win the race, which was won by Ecuador's Brian Daniel Pintado in 1:18:55, as per PTI.
Brazil's Caio Bonfim (1:19:09) and Spain's Alvaro Martin (1:19:11), the current world champion, took home the silver and bronze medals, respectively, while Massimo Stano (1:19:12), the gold medallist from the Tokyo Olympics, placed fourth.
With a time of 1:20:21, KT Irfan's 10th-place finish at the 2012 London Games was the best performance by an Indian athlete.
Later in the day, Priyanka Goswami will compete in the women's 20-kilometer race walk.
