Indian Woman Says New York's Times Square Didn't Match the Hype, 'So Much More Different Than Reels'

Instagram user Kanishka Jasoria recently shared a video from Times Square, revealing that the iconic tourist hotspot did not live up to the expectations she had built after watching countless travel reels online.

'My Expectations Have Been Shattered'

In the now-viral clip, Jasoria is seen standing amid packed streets filled with tourists during the weekend. Looking around at the crowd, she admitted that the experience was very different from what she had imagined.

"I had so many expectations of Times Square, but all of my expectations have been shattered. It's so crowded, and on top of that, it's the weekend, so there's nothing here, man. I don't understand, it's so much more different than what I see in Reels. Look at this," she said while showing the bustling surroundings.

She shared the video with the caption, "Little me would never believe this."

Reels vs Reality

The video highlights a common experience many travellers face when visiting globally famous landmarks. While social media often showcases carefully framed shots of Times Square's glowing billboards and lively streets, it rarely captures the heavy crowds, constant traffic and noisy atmosphere that visitors encounter—especially during weekends and peak tourist seasons.

Internet Shares Mixed Reactions

The clip quickly caught the attention of social media users, many of whom agreed that travel content online can sometimes create unrealistic expectations.

One user commented, "Reels versus reality hits hard."

Another wrote, "Yes, I agree with you."

Others, however, pointed out that Times Square has long been known for its crowds.

"Times Square is always overcrowded, especially on weekends," one user said.

Another suggested a better time to visit, writing, "Visit late at night for the real Times Square vibe."

The video has sparked a wider conversation online about the gap between curated travel content on social media and the actual experience of visiting some of the world's most popular tourist attractions.
