NEW DELHI: Sports Minister Anurag Thakur expressed India's ambition to host the Olympics in the future during an event in Greater Noida. He emphasised that organising high-quality tournaments across various sporting disciplines will play a crucial role in elevating India to the status of a sporting superpower.
Recently Australia's Victoria state withdrew as the host for the 2026 Commonwealth Games citing rising costs. When asked about India's potential interest in hosting the 2026 CWG, Thakur did not specifically address that particular event but confidently asserted that India has aspirations to host the Olympics in the future.
