Ishan Kishan's third consecutive half-century of the ODI series in West Indies earned him the 'Player of the Series' award, but the young left-handed India opener wasn't happy about getting dismissed when well set, as India ended the ODI leg of the tour with a victory on Tuesday.
Ishan's 77-run knock and his opening partnership of 143 with Shubman Gill, who top-scored with 85, helped India put up a huge total, as Hardik Pandya (70 not out) and Sanju Samson's (51) quickfire fifties in the middle order pushed it up to 351/5.
Mukesh Kumar (3/30) then did early damage to rock the Windies' chase, which was further deflated by Shardul Thakur's (4/37) four-wicket burst. The hosts were eventually bowled out for 151 to lose the match by 200 runs and the series 2-1.
Speaking after the match, Kishan said he was disappointed that he did not capitalise on his half-century.
"Not so happy with (my) finishing. I was supposed to score big after being set. That’s what my seniors told me. I should have stayed in and scored big. That’s what I’ll try next time...It’s important to forget the last game and start from zero," said Kishan.
Happy to be on the winning side: Gill
Gill, who has lately been struggling to convert good starts into big knocks in the ODI format, was happy to finally get a good innings under his belt.
"Very special (knock) for me. I was looking for a big score (century) but unfortunately that didn't happen. I'm happy that we ended up on the winning side," said the young India opener.
"It was a good (pitch). Initially the ball was coming on nicely and as the ball got older, it became tough to hit...I just try to do my best."
