India vs England 2022, 5th Test: Jasprit Bumrah sets new wicket record for India in a Test series in England

BIRMINGHAM: India's stand-in skipper for the Edgbaston Test, Jasprit Bumrah created a new record for most wickets taken by an Indian bowler during a Test series in England.

The bowling spearhead achieved this feat in the ongoing fifth Test, where he took three wickets and conceded 68 runs in England's first innings.

His three-wicket haul took his tally against England in the Test series to 21, surpassing the 19 wickets Bhuvneshwar Kumar took during the five-match series in 2014.

The previous four Tests of the series were played last year when the final match was postponed due to a Covid outbreak in the Indian camp. India lead the series 2-1.

Apart from his three wickets, Bumrah took a world record 35 runs off a Stuart Broad over to set the record for most runs in a single over in Test cricket.

Put in to bat, India made 416 and then bowled out England for 284 to take a first-innings lead of 132 runs.

The visitors then went on to make 125/3 in their second innings and led by 257 runs by close of play on day three.

Cheteshwar Pujara (50*) and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant (30*) resurrected India's second innings after they were reduced to 75/3.
