India vs Australia Stats Attack: Virat Kohli overtakes Sachin Tendulkar in ICC tournaments

NEW DELHI: India's chase master Virat Kohli etched his name into the record books on Sunday by surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most runs by an Indian in white-ball ICC tournaments. Kohli achieved this remarkable feat during India's crucial match against Australia in the ICC ODI World Cup in Chennai.

Kohli's extraordinary achievement came in his 67th match in white-ball ICC tournaments, as he, with 2785 runs, surpassed Tendulkar's impressive record of 2,719 runs in 61 matches. Kohli achieved this milestone with a remarkable batting average of 65.23, complemented by two centuries and 25 half-centuries. Tendulkar, a cricket legend, accumulated over 2,000 runs in white-ball ICC tournaments with an average of 52.28, including seven centuries and 16 fifties.

Most runs for India in ICC limited-over tournaments

Notably, Kohli also eclipsed Kumar Sangakkara's record for the most half-centuries (113) by a non-opener in international cricket. This exceptional achievement underscored Kohli's consistency and ability to perform under pressure.

Most 50+ scores as a non-opener in ODIs

Along with his personal records, the dynamic partnership of 165 runs between Kohli and KL Rahul not only propelled India to victory but also established a new record for India against Australia in World Cup matches. This partnership was not only India's best against Australia for any wicket in a World Cup game but also their third-best for the fourth wicket in ODIs against Australia.

India vs Australia match witnessed a remarkable turnaround as the hosts, recovering from a precarious position of 3 wickets for just 2 runs, successfully chased down a target of 200, securing a historic victory with six wickets in hand. This remarkable comeback showcased India's resilience and set a new benchmark for the lowest score from which any team has gone on to win a men's ODI.
