India to withdraw High Commissioner to Canada as row over Nijjar death escalates

New Delhi: India on Monday announced to withdraw its High Commissioner in Canada after latter linked him and some other Indian diplomats to the killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. 


The Ministry of External Affiars (MEA) strongly rejecting Canada’s allegations suggesting the involvement of High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma and other diplomats in the Nijjar murder plot, describing them as preposterous and part of a political agenda centred on vote bank politics.

India summons Canadian Charge d'Affaires
The government on Monday summoned Canadian Charge d'Affaires and told him that they would not accept the baseless targeting of the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats in  Canada. 

"It was underlined that in an atmosphere of extremism and violence, the Trudeau Government’s actions endangered their safety. We have no faith in the current Canadian Government’s commitment to ensure their security. Therefore, the Government of India has decided to withdraw the High Commissioner and other targeted diplomats and officials," The MEA said in a statement.

MEA 
Earler, the MEA, in a statememt, informed that it received a diplomatic communication from Ottawa on Sunday "suggesting that the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats are 'persons of interest' in a matter related to an investigation in that country".
