For the millions of Indians living in the UAE, the trip back home usually involves suitcases filled with gifts, chocolates, and the latest electronics bought in Dubai. However, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has recently updated the "Duty-Free Allowance" for passengers arriving from international destinations.
Currently, an Indian resident or a foreigner residing in India can carry items worth up to ₹50,000 duty-free in their baggage, provided they have stayed abroad for more than three days. It is important to remember that this limit applies to "used personal effects" and travel souvenirs; it does not include high-value commercial quantities intended for resale.
