RANCHI: Vandana Katariya, like most of the players of the Indian women's hockey team, didn't have it easy growing up and playing hockey.
People in her village in Roshnabad in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, kept asking her family why they were letting her wear shorts and play. Hearing these things hurt her but with the support of her family, especially her father Nahar Singh, she played on and Tuesday will mark her 300th international match when India take on Japan at Asian Champions Trophy here.
