Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday highlighted the rapid pace of railway electrification under his government, saying 70% of India's rail network was electrified in a decade compared with 30% in the preceding 90 years.
Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, Modi said railway electrification began in 1925 but progressed slowly for decades before accelerating under his government.
