Incredible Arsenal record highlights Chelsea fall as pressure mounts on Graham Potter

A remarkable record for Arsenal this season showcases Chelsea’s dramatic slump over the course of the 2022/23 campaign. The two London rivals had contrasting fortunes during the latest weekend in the Premier League.

While the Gunners continued their title tilt with a 1-0 win at Leicester City on Saturday, the Blues were downed 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium the following day. This victory for Mikel Arteta’s side took their away points tally to a whopping 31, seven points clear of next-best Manchester City, from 13 matches.

Astonishingly, this total alone would be enough for Arsenal to be placed higher than Chelsea in the official Premier League table, despite being amassed from 11 games fewer. Across 24 league games this campaign, the Blues have also accumulated 31 points, but their goal difference of -2 is diminished by Arsenal’s +16 from away games alone.

The Gunners have only dropped points in three matches on their travels this season, courtesy of defeats at Manchester United and Everton, along with a 1-1 draw at Southampton, winning the remaining 10. For Chelsea, their total number of victories stands at eight, one fewer than their total number of losses.

This is yet another damning statistic for Graham Potter’s side, as pressure continues to mount on the Blues boss. Following the defeat at Spurs on Sunday, Chelsea's dismal run continued, having won just one game and scored four goals across 11 matches in 2023.

Potter's 35% win ratio is the lowest since Glenn Hoddle in 1993. Despite appearing to still have the backing of owner Todd Boehly, Potter is now the overwhelming favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post, according to William Hill.

The Chelsea boss is 1/3 to depart from the west London side after failing to win any of his last six games, now comfortably clear of David Moyes, whose odds went out to 9/2 after the Hammers thrashed Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Supporters’ patience is seemingly close to rock-bottom, with a petition from Chelsea fans to see Potter sacked having now passed more than 10,000 signatures.
