Dogs Trust Ireland have said a hike in surrenders "is happening" as people head back to the office.
Covid-19 restrictions eased last week and many have started to go into their workplaces for the first time since March 2020.
Dogs Trust have told owners not to panic about leaving their pooches alone and have given advice on how to navigate the reopening of society with your furry friend.
However the Finglas based charity said there "absolutely" is an increase in surrender requests as people head back to the office.
A Dogs Trust spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "When we look at November last year, we had 2,155 requests to surrender dogs (in the year to date). That's 82% more than 2020.
"In 2021 that's what we were looking at. Just by November we had over 2,000 people saying I cannot do this. Now that's not because of a return to work, there are lots of other reasons but yes we think it would have a lot to do with it.
"When we look back to 2020, the numbers were 82% lower so that's an incredible jump."
The spokeswoman told owners not to panic and gave advice on leaving your dog home alone for the first time.
She said: "We are trying to see a rise in dog friendly office spaces but there are rules that go with that. You know, make sure the colleagues are happy and that your dog is trained properly."
"The one thing you don't do is panic, that's not going to help.
"What I would advise people to do is to begin to build it up. Start with you leaving in very small stages.
"And when you're leaving, make sure that dog has something to keep them occupied. I always put it like this, you give a teenager or a child an XBOX or something cool and they're like 'see ya later, bye'."
They suggested giving interactive toys or anything vet-approved to keep your pooch occupied will help.
"You're basically enticing the dog to be left alone and then when you come back in, they hadn't even noticed that you had been gone.
"Build that up really steadily. If you can't do that, definitely look into somebody, a neighbour or family member, just popping into them if they can."
The charity offers a free "Life After Lockdown-Bark to Basics" pack to help owners and dogs.
"That's basically a how-to Bible of how to leave your dog alone and get them back to normal, because there's lots of other things happening in people's lives as everything opens up."
The pack is available here and anyone who is allowed to bring their dog to work with them can access tips and advice here.
