Prison bosses have introduced extra training for staff after an inmate died having fallen unwell. Alex Braund, who was at the Category B HMP Nottingham, died on March 10, 2020, with reports suggesting he'd contracted pneumonia.
Assistant Coroner Laurinda Bower held an inquest into 25-year-old Mr Braund's death - and bosses at the prison in Perry Road, Sherwood, have been taking steps to improve how staff respond to emergencies.
A prison service spokesperson said: "Our thoughts remain with Mr Braund’s family and friends. Since this tragic incident we have introduced extra training for staff responding to medical emergencies. We will consider the jury’s findings and respond to the coroner’s recommendations in due course.”

It was said that Mr Braund had fallen ill on Saturday, March 7, 2020, a few weeks after arriving at the prison. Mr Braund had been taken to hospital on March 10.
In a statement, his family said: “Our family and Alex’s friends have had to endure over two and a half years of waiting to find out how Alex died on that morning of 10th March 2020.
"On every single one of those days since, Alex is never far from our minds and our hearts. The loss we have suffered is utterly incalculable, compounded by a deep sense of unfairness in such a young life being needlessly lost.”
